In a surprise to many people, Nintendo released the Super Mario Bros 35th Anniversary Direct, and with it came a lot of exciting announcements for fans of the franchise. The entire Direct can be watched below. I have also separated the key bullet points for those who don’t want to sit through the 16 minute video.

Super Mario Bros Game & Watch

The original Super Mario (which debuted in 1985) can now be played on a special game and watch system, and includes Super Mario the Lost Levels and Game and watch Ball starring Mario. A neat little addition to the system is that it also functions as a clock!

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury comes to the Nintendo Switch on 2/12/2021 and looks to be the original Super Mario 3D World, plus new content along with it.

Super Mario Bro’s 35

Super Mario Bro’s 35, is an online battle game, similar to Tetris 99. Players compete in Super Mario levels, enemies you defeat go to other players courses, the goal is to outpace your opponent until your the last Mario standing. You have to be careful though as other players will constantly be trying to send enemies to you as well, this game will be an exclusive offer for Nintendo Switch Online members on 10/1/2020.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

Once again Nintendo is creating gaming products that aim to bring gaming into the real world. Mario Kart Live Home Circuit will bridge the gap between real life and video games by allowing players to control a remote-controlled kart which will correspond to the Nintendo Switch where players can race against the computer or against other people as long as they have a remote-controlled kart as well. Mario Kart Live Home Circuit arrives on shelves and the Nintendo Switch 10/16/2020.

Super Mario All-Stars

Super Mario All-Stars re-release is coming to the Nintendo Switch, it will feature Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario the Lost Levels. The audio/visuals of the game have been upgraded from the originals and the best part is that it’s available today!

Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Along with the release of Super Mario All-Stars comes Super Mario 3D All-Stars which will include Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy, the games have been optimized, and brought to the switch higher resolution the game will release 9/18/2020.

Other Smaller things to note from the Direct

• Now through March 2021, players can complete missions and get cool rewards like a pin set, key chains and more .
• Super Mario Kart Tour will be having a special event featuring the original Super Mario and Donkey Kong from the first game.
• Historical Super Mario items and anniversary-themed merchandise will be at the New York Nintendo store as well as store.nintendo.com.
• Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be having an in game online tournament called NintendoVS Challenge Cup and will feature Mario themed. character and levels.
• A 35th anniversary themed speed run course is coming to Mario Maker 2.
• Super Mario themed splat vest is coming to Splatoon 2.
• Super Mario themed furniture coming to Animal Crossing New Horizons.
• New Super Mario themed products from Puma (shoes), BlackMilk (clothing), Hasbro gaming (Super Mario Monopoly), Jakks Pacific (figures), and Lego Super Mario sets.
